Efendi advocates CleanCare

CleanCare is the way forward

HOW CLEVER

Taking care of your clothes can also reduce their environmental impact. More than 30 percent of a garment’s climate footprint—from fiber production and apparel assembly to transport and sales—occurs after it leaves the store, according to H&M. “We knew that by lowering the temperature from 60 degrees Celsius to 30°C, or hot to cold, when machine washing, you reduce energy use by 50 percent,” Catarina Midby, H&M’s head of sustainable fashion, told the Guardian. “Hang-drying saves 17 percent of the total climate impact in the life cycle. Ironing can be reduced if you steam clothes in the bathroom while showering and you can hand-wash most dry clean—only knits and silks,” Midby explains.

Green Dry Cleaning

What is Wet Cleaning

Wet cleaning is a professional, modern, environmentally friendly alternative to dry cleaning that can care for delicate fabrics that a dry cleaning machine can't; enabling your favourite items to look fresh and last longer.

Since being developed in 1981 by german companies; Miele and Kreussler, Wet Cleaning has established itself as the economical and environmentally friendly alternative to dry cleaning.
It was designed with one defining goal in mind, to create a process for cleaning that could safely and successfully clean and protect all garments and fibres. It did this with a biodegradable detergent as good to fabrics at it was to the environment.

Why Is It Better

Wet cleaning is a process that enables professional cleaners to safely handle 'Dry Clean Only' items, without them coming into contact with any dry cleaning chemicals and neurotoxins, such as perchloroethylene. By using water and a special biodegradable detergent, your clothes will stay softer for longer and will be much better for your skin, as well as the environment.

How It Works

By controlling a range of factors, such as detergent dosing levels, drum rotation rhythms and temperature to a high degree of accuracy, your clothes are safely cleaned, without any chemical smells. Utilising a high extraction cycle, the majority of any moisture remaining is removed from your garments. Finished with an optimised spin cycle that measures the amount of residual moisture, your clothes are protected from over drying, whilst saving energy.

Moths Free

Moth Free

Five Steps For A Moth Free Wardrobe

1) CLEANING OUT MOTHS
Clothes moths like to breed in dark, dusty, undisturbed corners. Therefore the first step in eliminating a moth infestation is to remove everything from your wardrobe and drawers. Wash what can be washed and dry-clean everything else (including bedding, drapes and curtains). Vacuum your drawers, carpets, floors, wardrobe and all surrounding areas thoroughly. Then wash inside the wardrobe and drawers with soap and water. This will help kill off any larvae that may still be present.
2) KEEPING THINGS CLEAN
Moths love food proteins in wool and especially love food, skin and hair particles we leave behind. Do not put dirty or even once worn clothes back in the wardrobe. This is what moths feed on. TIP- They don't like the taste of dry cleaning fluid so if you are storing out of season clothes, dry clean them first.
3) CLOTHING STORAGE
Put clothes back into the wardrobe clean! Store out of season garments in our lovely breathable garment bags. Avoid storing in plastics as the fabrics need to be able to breathe to prevent mould. For folded items use a storage box lined in Acid Free Tissue paper. Don't store your clothes in an over heated or damp attic, cellar or storage unit. Put your storage box in a spare room, on top of a cupboard or better still in a cupboard with a firmly shut door. TIP- cashmere, wool and silk are not only delicate fabrics, but are a moths favourite. Keep them stored either in our beautiful Knitwear or T-Shirt Storage Bag or Cashmere Storage Bag for complete peace of mind.
4) MOTH REPELLENT PRODUCTS
Once you have cleaned both your clothes and wardrobes, you must be vigilant in order to cure moth infestation. The most effective way to do this is by combining our Moth Box with a selection of our Anti-moth Products and Natural Moth Repellents; the Moth Box catches the males, and the repellents deter the females. We sell Anti-moth Products which are varied, easy to use, and smell wonderful. . .
5) SEASON CHANGE
Monitor your clothes and look out for holes caused by clothes moths. Every season have a mini clean out and replace your moth repellent products. This will help keep your wardrobe fresh, clean and moth free all year round.

Burberry Macs

Categories // fashion and tips

Burberry Macs

In the winter months we also get our fair share of rain. We have had the pleasure of cleaning Burberry coats that have been around 40 years old. A well maintained Burberry Mac will last you for many years. Burberry did used to offer the scotchgauard protections but this has stopped many years ago. The coats do come with a protections and it's always best to confirm this when purchasing. It is vital that they are protected before you wear them. So please ask. If they are not then bring them to us and ask for the reproofing service. The scotchgaurd used to cost as much as £60. Fortunatley we have superb reproofing chemicals which give the vital protection your mac needs as well as protection from ground in dirt. Ground in dirt is a macs biggest enemy. The key is in the following tips:-
1. Make sure your mac is re-proofed before you wear it.
2. Have your Mac cleaned once after every season. If you wear it throughout the year you made need to have it cleaned twice a years. It will loose its reproof agent so have it re-proofed after cleaning.
3. The leather buckles should be removed before cleaning and so should any other leather trimming. These are trimmings that rare difficult to replace if they loose their appearance.
4.Never store your mac in the polythene from the dry cleaner. Instead cover the shoulders in Acid free tissue and let the fabric breath. Alternatively you can use a breathable cotton cover.

The cradle action is manually done at the end where the technician ensures a light rocking motion so there is no abrasive spinning. Cashmere

Categories // fashion and tips

Loving Cashmere

This time of year, we see a lot of cashmere garments at Efendi. Cashmere is among the most luxurious varieties of wool, and it’s not just for sweaters: cashmere is perfect for everything scarves to socks! Because cashmere clothing is a significant investment, it’s worth taking taking the time to care for it properly.

Fortunately, cashmere is not as finicky as it’s luxury image might lead you to believe. It’s easy to keep your cashmere looking fantastic with a few easy tips:

Start by reading your garment’s labels: cashmere is commonly blended with other types of wool, and care instructions vary widely with each specific textile formulation.
Always hand wash pure cashmere garments. They’re easy to damage with machine agitation. Here at Efendi, we often hand wash cashmere, or sometimes dry clean it as needed. At home, there are a number of soaps and detergents formulated just for cashmere.
Never wear a deodorant with aluminum chloride – this can cause cashmere to become stained around the armpits.
Try to keep perfumes and cologne to a minimum when wear cashmere. Wool fibers absorb the scents and necessitate more frequent cleaning.
Keep the cat away! Cat fur gets everywhere in the fine weave of cashmere, and is difficult to remove.
Don’t pull a pill! Pulling pills will cause the rest of the textile to unravel. Use a cashmere brush or pill stone instead.
Finally – at the end of the season, put cashmere away clean. Moth larvae feed on fibers like cashmere, and wool with residue from food, beverage or perspiration are the most tempting targets.
PS – Ever wonder why cashmere gets it’s name? Cashmere wool comes from goats in the Cashmere region of the Gobi Desert.

If your cashmere could use professional attention, just drop us a line at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .uk . Even if you’re not local, we can handle all your cashmere care.

Whites and Lights

Do you worry when purchasing white accessories? The biggest problem is maintaining them. Right? Wrong!
At Efendi we offer a colour restorations service, stain removal and mini Spa treatments.
Tips:-
1- Always spray the leather all over with Colonil Spray when new.
2- Always take your shoes to a reputable shoe care company. Get advice on having them soled. Wet weather and general dirt and grime will ruin leather soles and reduce the life span of your shoes. Soles will protect them.
3- Always keep clean before storing and use Acid free tissue inside and out. Not only will the tissue help maintain the shape but it will absorb moisture and prevent your shoes and handbags from loosing its newness.
